Let us first understand what GLP-1 is?
Your Body Already Makes It
GLP-1, or glucagon-like peptide-1, is a hormone your body produces naturally. It's released by specialised cells in your small intestine called L cells, every time you eat. The moment it's released, it tells your brain you're full, prompts your pancreas to release insulin, slows down how quickly food leaves your stomach, and kicks off the chain of events your body needs to properly digest food, manage blood sugar, and store fat.
It’s one of the most important hormones involved in how your body responds to food.
So What Happens When It Doesn't Work Properly?
For many people, this signal is weaker than it should be. The message "you're full, stop eating" either doesn't come through clearly or fades too quickly. A couple ways that this can show up as are:
- Feeling hungry again shortly after a full meal
- Difficulty feeling satisfied, regardless of what you eat
- Blood sugar fluctuations that affect energy and mood
And since these are such everyday issues, we usually don’t take them seriously, but it’s very important to listen to the signs that our body regularly keeps telling us.
